I grew up watching my mother paint the walls of our home with extravagant artworks, the most memorable was a large painting that covered the wall of the entrance to our family home. The painting was a copy of a French prostitute, 'Odalisque à la culotte rouge' by Henri Matisse and watching her paint our home surely was a HUGE influence on my life
She also painted the dining table we ate off and the chairs we sat in, she even sewed the clothes we wore (as a result I had an AMAZING wardrobe for most of my life).
Epic gratitude to my Mama for showing me what creativity was and always supporting my creative journey She showed me that self expression through art and having the freedom in yourself to create in your life everyday was a gift that should be cherished and nourished forever.
If I had any doubts my my parents were the coolest parents in the world, by the age of sixteen they were all gone . My mother and father allowed this EPIC and slightly disturbing creation to appear in the hallways of our family home.
I spent a long weekend painting the walls, floor and ceiling of this hallway in the home I had lived in since I was born. Included in the process was ripping up the retro blue carpets and painting the ceiling (which is very hard to do it would seem).
I had left home to pursue my dreams of being a pop star at nineteen. Soon after my parents decided to sell the home and move to other state. I was very precious about my art and as a condition of selling the house It was agreed I would do a final photo shoot with my beloved artworks.
And here it is.
This is called 'Pandemonium' and was inspired from the PC game American McGee's Alice. This game also inspired me to adopt the name Alice as my artist name and to be able to "live in wonderland" for real was the most epic thing at that time for me.
